Annunciazione Leonardo -
Leonardo was born in Anchiano, a suburb of Vinci, near Florence, on April 15, 1452. In 1466, his father took him to Florence to "a bottega", a school of a skillful artisan (Andrea di Cione known as Mastro Verrocchio).
After a short time, he became a member of the Corporation of painters and started working on his own while looking for customers.
Leonardo remained in Florence for 14 years. He moved to Milano in 1482. Leonardo's innovations had a profound influence on the Lombard painting tradition. He designed the costumes and supervised the production of the representation of "Festa del Paradiso".
In 1516, he went to France where King Francis offered him a small castle in Amboise to reside in. While he was there, he suffered a stroke that paralyzed his right hand. He remained in that location until his death, at the age of 67, on May 25, 1519.
Leonardo introduced many innovations in painting, one of which is the typical delicate gradation of contours. This can be clearly observed in the subtle smile of the Mona Lisa.
